Mindy Kaling Is Making a Muslim Version of “You’ve Got Mail”

Mindy Kaling and Amazon Studios are making a Muslim version of the classic romantic comedy  “You’ve Got Mail”, you know the one with Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks.

It’ll be based on the book “Hana Khan Carries On”, which is about two competing Halal restaurants down the street from each other in Toronto.

One is a family business where the main character Hana works, and the other is a larger commercial restaurant chain.  Much like “You’ve Got Mail”, Hana will have an instant romantic connection to the owner of the rival restaurant.

It’s still in the early stages, so no other information has been released.

(FYI, “You’ve Got Mail” was a remake of a movie from 1940 called “The Shop Around the Corner”.)
