Former U.S. Women’s soccer goalie Hope Solo was talking on a recent podcast about this year’s team getting the Bronze medal. One of the hosts brought up how Donald Trump blasted the team for coming in third, and saying it happened because they’re “woke” and “leftists”.
Hope said, “I think the rhetoric surrounding this team has been both divisive and inclusive. I guess it’s kind of where we are in politics in this day and age. I think the kneeling thing can be very divisive.”
She went on to say, “I’ve seen Megan Rapinoe almost bully players into kneeling because she really wants to stand up for something in her particular way, but it’s our right as Americans to do it in whatever way we’re comfortable with.”
Megan and Hope played together from 2006 until Hope’s retirement in 2016, and she was gone before Megan started kneeling. For the record, it doesn’t seem that anyone who’s played with Megan has complained about her bullying them.
