The Most and Least Diverse States in America

A comprehensive new study ranked all 50 states by how diverse they are, and it wasn’t just based on ethnicity.

They looked at:  household income and education level, occupations, marital status and family size, cultural diversity, religious diversity, and political diversity.

In the final ranking, the 10 MOST diverse states are:  California, Texas, Hawaii, New Jersey, New York, New Mexico, Maryland, Florida, Nevada, and Arizona.

The 10 LEAST diverse are:  West Virginia, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Montana, Kentucky, Wyoming, Utah, Iowa, and Ohio.

Even though Utah ended up in the bottom 10, it ranks as the state with the most income diversity, while Mississippi is last in that category.  Nevada has the most diversity in terms of citizens’ birthplaces, while Louisiana has the least.
