If someone told you today that they’ve got plans “next weekend,” do they mean this coning weekend, or the weekend after? A new survey found we really can’t agree on what “next weekend” means, especially in the first few days of the week.
People were asked whether they’d say “this weekend” or “next weekend” if they were talking about the coming weekend on a Monday or Tuesday. Only 40% said it’s “this weekend”, 56% said “next weekend”, and 4% weren’t sure.
Young people were more likely to say “this weekend,” and people over 50 were more likely to say “next weekend.” But here’s one thing we do agree on: Only 7% would refer to this PAST weekend as “this” weekend. 91% say it’s already “last” weekend.
