Here are some random facts for you.

1.  The gin and tonic was invented in the early 19th century to make antimalarial medication more palatable.

2.  The iron maiden, you know, that human-shaped iron cabinet with spikes inside, wasn’t an actual torture device in the Middle Ages.  It was created in the 18th century as part of a traveling circus show.

3.  Croissants are originally from Austria, not France.  They were created in the 1600s in Austria and didn’t make it to France until the next century.

4.  Fortune cookies are not served in China.  They most likely originated from cookies made by Japanese immigrants to America in the early 20th century.

A while back, Jenny Lee, the author of a book called “The Fortune Cookie Chronicles”, said, “I actually brought a bunch of fortune cookies to China and gave them to Chinese people, who were very confused.”

5.  Napoleon was just under 5-foot-7, which was ABOVE average height in France at the time.
