Five Random Facts for Friday

Here are some random facts for you.

1.  Last year, just 5% of the plastic waste consumed in the U.S. was recycled back into plastic.  The remainder was sent to landfills around the country.  Rates for glass were a little better, at 31%, and 50% of cans were recycled.  But nothing can match cardboard’s recyclability, which hovers annually between 90% and 91%.

2.  The reason so many Asian countries have names that end in “stan” is because it’s an ancient Persian word for “homeland” or “country.”

3.  Lil Wayne was a straight-A student.

4.  James Doohan, who played Scotty on “Star Trek”, fought in World War Two with the Canadian military, and he was shot six times on D-Day in Normandy.

5.  The Caesar salad comes from Tijuana, Mexico.  It was created by an Italian immigrant named Caesar Cardini at a restaurant he owned there.
